Introduction to Uchikomi
(One Hour Session)
In-depth taiko training for the mind and body!!

Uchikomi is all about repetition of rhythms in various ways to improve each aspect of your physical and mental ability.
In taiko, that can include something as simple as one strong beat all the way to a long, complex phrase of a piece. With enough Uchikomi practice, the body will grasp the concept of using form over power, mind over matter. Then your body will naturally become stronger and gain stamina as a result of Uchikomi.

Taiko Uchikomi does not only consist of strong hits.
Small hits, medium hits, rolls, rim taps (ka ra), passive drops, doubles, skips, vibrants, ma, timed-ma and any combination of these and more are equally important according to you and your groups particular styles and needs. It is important to keep in mind that no matter what is included in your uchikomi session, of particular importance is concentration on what can be achieved for each beat during the session.

For example:
1. Hard beats = Solid hit and stabilization
2. Soft beats = Control, Fluid yet crisp sound
3. Rolls = Fast or slow, on-time
4. Ma = Equal space between each beat, especially if movement is added.
5. Combinations = switching grip, form, movement, etc. to easily control your desired sound.

Uchikomi is something that we love to practice, and we would be happy to share this with you in this uchikomi course.
