Join us for a big POP-up in 2022
You may have heard about our concert in March 2022, but what you probably didn’t hear is...
You Can Join Us!!!
Join us in the closing performance of the Iida City Community Center Theatre with a POP-up to honour the community center and staff.
TOKARA's 18th Anniversary Concert will be dedicated in-part to the Iida City Community Center and the staff who have continually supported us in our efforts to create and strengthen the bridge between Japan - the INADANI Valley in particular - and the taiko community in more than twenty countries around the world through our yearly intensive courses and workshops.
As a part of this concert, we are planning a large grouping of taiko players throughout the world projected onto the screen, joining the performers onstage...all performing TOKARA's original festival piece - POP.
While this project originally envisioned taiko learners and performers who have been here to Iida and experienced the hospitality of the surrounding community first-hand, participants of online courses who could not travel to Japan have also been growing, and therefore the idea to open to all participants of the worldwide taiko community was borne.

March 12 will be TOKARA's first full concert of 2022.
This concert, called Kansho holds two meanings:
First, it will be TOKARA's 18th Anniversary concert, and along with our full cast of Stage and Matsuri members, we will also be joined by Ensemble Liberta. We are looking forward to performing together after many years of not being able to share the same stage.
Second, the venue where we rehearse, the Iida Kouminkan Theater, will be closing it's current location and moving to a non-soundproofed location. Unfortunately, this means that we will be without a rehearsal space until we can find someplace, but this concert and the TOKARA Bootcamp are the last such events that will be held at the current theater, and we are extremely appreciative of the staff and space over the many years that they have supported TOKARA. So, there will be performance piece never-before performed with the theme of "appreciation".

TOKARA’s Buchiawase Daiko T-shirts are now available for pre-order!!
The idea for these T-shirts was born from the workshops taught by Art Lee since 1998.
As a professional wadaiko artist who had also been trained in culinary arts academy during his early days in university, Art Lee believed in adding the imagery of cooking to each drill and song which he taught during classes and workshops.
This helped both to create a more effective way to remember complex rhythms, as well as to add an extra layer of excitement to particularily difficult drumming sessions.

Our New Trademark Buchiawase T-shirts have arrived!!
This T-shirt was actually designed three years ago.
Finally we are able to bring it into reality. Originally it was meant as a teaching guide during our workshops,
but now we find that there is quite a bit of interest...so, we are planning on offering the T-shirt for sale within the next few weeks.

TOKARA Taiko Bootcamp returns!!
After four years, TOKARA Bootcamp will return in March 2022.
Plans are currently for March 7 - 10 and will coincide with TOKARA's Anniversary Concert
scheduled for March 12, 2022.
If borders are open, we will be happy to welcome participants in-person.
However, if borders are not yet open, we still plan to hold this course online.

After nearly two years of no stage concerts, we were happy
to be able to perform at our home stage in Iida City at the Kouminkan.
We still needed to keep the audience to only 30% capacity, but they made enough happiness to fill the theater.
